I had the pleasure of attending, and speaking at, a ribbon cutting this morning for a local business. It is a business you have probably driven by hundreds of times and either didn't know it was there, or at the very least what the company did. As I stood there this morning, waiting for my turn to congratulate them on their great work and commitment to Beaumont, I realized........How many other businesses, that we don't even know about, are experiencing the same successes? It seems in today's world, negative media gets more attention than the positive growth taking place in our community. Scallon has made a significant investment in Beaumont and is committed to hire more of our friends and neighbors to fill much needed positions. Their story is not unique in that there are dozens of other local businesses taking advantage of the upward trend in their market to capitalize on the growth. The product and process Scallon deploys is unique to their operations, but the growth of businesses taking advantage of the oil and gas industry growth is replicable and significant.
Southeast Texas is perfectly positioned to take advantage of a number of opportunities available to the region. In the past 7 years over $40B in investment has been announced in Southeast Texas, with another $11B currently in various stages of prospecting. These are just the projects we know about! Southeast Texas's waterways, pipeline infrastructure and transportation system market us as an extremely desirable location for companies interested in accessing both national and international markets. NOW is a good time to be proud of your community and thankful for the economic opportunity it is able to provide.
Scallon Controls made the paper, and you will see the ceremony on the news, but the next time you drive by a new commercial slab being poured, understand what that means. That piece of concrete is most likely the foundation (both literally and figuratively) of economic growth.
