Discover Southeast Texas

Beaumont is a central referral point for Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana residents who need special care for serious medical conditions or rehabilitation. Our physicians – many who trained in the nation’s largest medical complex in neighboring Houston – treat patients from all parts of the world. Many patients prefer the physicians, hospitals, clinics, and smaller Southeast Texas community to Houston’s frantic metropolis.

The communty's size is appealing to doctors as well. Some former Houston physicians prefer our area’s size and have brought their practices and world-class abilities here. More than 330 physicians practice here using the latest high-tech medical equipment available for diagnosis and treatment. The area's medical community has acute-care hospitals, rehabilitation centers, multiple outpatient clinics, a bone and joint clinic, and a Veterans Administration clinic that serve more than 70,000 people annually. Services are readily available to treat illness and maintain wellness, with programs individualized to address specific needs.

Memorial Hermann Baptist Hospital

On September 5, 1949, doors opened to Baptist Hospital of Southeast Texas – the new “City of Healing.” Throughout the history of the Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas, one chord running throughout all aspects of the hospital is the common mission to provide quality, Christ-centered health care. This mission continues today through the determination and caring of the physicians, staff volunteers, and strong leaders who work tirelessly for the benefit of both the hospital and the patients.

Baptist Hospital’s award-winning care is complemented by being recognized as the first hospital in Southeast Texas to be designated as a Magnet facility. This national designation recognizes nursing excellence in patient care, nursing practices, innovation and research. Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas also received the prestigious Nurse-Friendly facility by the Texas Nurses Association for creating an environment that allows nurses to practice excellent patient care. The Stroke Program earned the Gold Seal of Approval from the Joint Commission for Disease-Specific Care, and the Chest Pain Program became the 365th accredited center in the nation. Other top honors included the Press Ganey Award for dedication to patient satisfaction; the World Class Workforce Award given by the Southeast Texas Workforce; the Spindletop Award from the Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce, and the Mimi Powell Huey Partnership Circle Award for making a difference in the lives of abused and neglected children in Texas.

With the addition of a new 52-bed patient tower, the Julie Rogers Cancer Center, a new special procedures room, a 64-slice CT scanner that enables physicians to order coronary CT angiogram and neuron CT studies, the acquisition of the Stryker Navigation System for Orthopedic Surgery, and extensive renovations to the Women’s Services Unit, Baptist Beaumont Hospital carried its commitment to Southeast Texas into the 21st-century.

Approaching 60 years of service to Southeast Texas, combined with a ten-year partnership between Memorial Hermann Healthcare System and Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas, BBH continues their commitment to being faithful stewards of the health of Southeast Texas.

CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth Hospital

Founded by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word before the end of the 19th-century, CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth Hospital is a part of CHRISTUS Health, one of the largest Catholic health systems in the country. Their mission to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ is embraced by the associates, volunteers, spiritual care providers, and physicians who practice at CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth. They strive to provide their patients with the highest possible quality of medical care, as well as loving care for the whole person in body, mind and spirit.

In addition to the 461-bed main hospital, the 40-acre campus includes the W.P. Hebert Health and Wellness Center, a 65,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art fitness center; Minor Care Center; the Outpatient Pavilion; and many medical office buildings.

The Mamie McFaddin Ward Cancer Treatment Center is adjacent to the main hospital. It is the only facility in Jefferson County accredited by the American College of Surgeons as a Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program.

The new $95 million Outpatient Pavilion on the hospital campus provides the latest in technology and exceptional service. State-of-the-art equipment provides guests with top-notch medical treatment, and caring people make it as pleasant as possible. Convenient parking adds to the positive outpatient experience.

To better serve the people, additional expansion plans for CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth are currently underway. They include construction of a West Tower on the main campus to enlarge the emergency department, surgical suites, critical care, and selected inpatient units.

Christus St. Elizabeth was the 2001 recipient of the GBCC Spindletop Award for outstanding corporate citizenship.

The Medical Center of Southeast Texas

The Medical Center of Southeast Texas has opened a new Outpatient Center located on the first floor of the Regional Office Building, adjacent to the hospital. The Outpatient Center offers cardiac rehabilitation services, outpatient imaging services, and wound care/hyperbaric services. Outpatient imaging services include a new, state-of-the-art 64-slice CT scanner that enables physicians to order a coronary CT angiogram that can scan the heart and detect heart blockage and calcium deposits along the wall of a patient’s arteries. This is a non-invasive test to check the arteries of the heart. The medical center is the first hospital in the southeast Texas area to acquire a new 64-slice CT scanner.

In spring 2007, an Outpatient Behavioral Health Center began offering two levels of service. These services provide an alternative to inpatient hospitalization or as a transitional step between the hospital and the residential environment. The Partial Hospital Program provides services five days a week for clients needing maximum support. The Intensive Outpatient Program offers services from one to three days weekly to meet the needs of more stable clients who benefit from a more comprehensive therapeutic environment.

Last summer, the Physical Therapy Department offered a specialized outpatient rehab program for children with developmental delays.

The high-tech medical center has the da Vinci surgical system, considered the next generation of surgery. Its computerized 3-D view of vital anatomy and its operative surgical robotic system combine with a surgeon’s skill to enable minimally invasive surgery in a manner never before experienced. It enhances healing and promotes well-being. The center also has centers of excellence in cardiology, emergency services, orthopedics and other specialties.
