Lamar University in Beaumont and Lamar State College campuses in Orange and Port Arthur offer arious degrees to suit any prospective student. High School athletics are very competitive beginning with Fall football going thru Spring Baseball and all other school sports in between, including basketball and volleyball.
Many great musicians, Janis Joplin, The Big Bopper, Mark Chesnutt and Tracy Byrd to name a few, have come out of Southeast Texas. Great venues and frequent live concerts add to the unique entertainment opportunities available throughout the Southeast Texas region. |
For the cultural or historical interest, Southeast Texas offers multiple museums, historical homes, several Theaters of Performing Arts that hosts many performances that could be found in New York, historical churches, a Naval Destroyer that was brought back to its home of origination and is being restored for public viewing, a winery that grows many of its own produce for its fruity wines and numerous small gift and antique shops for your enjoyment.
Southeast Texas borders Louisiana on IH 10 and is convenient to the casinos in Southwest Louisiana, close enough to the region's center for a fast paced night life or within an hour drive to Houston if that is your desire.
