The Southeast Texas education system is a member of Region V Education Service Center and provides instruction at the primary and secondary levels through 17 independent school districts. In addition, there are 21 private and parochial schools and 5 charter schools providing services throughout the region. 

Of the schools located in these 17 independent districts, 16 of them have been rated Exemplary by Region V and 42 have been rated as Recognized.

Educational advancement is easily accessible beyond the secondary level. Southeast Texas is home to Lamar University and Lamar Institute of Technology located in Beaumont and Lamar State College located in Orange and Port Arthur.
